The story of the Sarvaa Organics founders begins with Derek Van Atta, who created the company in 2014, and continues today with Joshua Hoffman.
Derek Van Atta: Founder of Sarvaa Organics
Derek Van Atta founded Sarvaa Organics in 2014 with a commitment to share an important discovery with his community. He discovered that the nourishing power of the world’s plant foods can be made accessible to anyone.
Derek’s story, like anyone’s, takes a winding path. Before founding Sarvaa, he founded another successful business in Silicon Valley. He later moved to the mountains above the Pacific Ocean. There, he lived as a yogi at the Ananda Monastery in Northern California, immersing himself in the embodiment of Satchidananda philosophies.
Today, he is a loving, devoted father and a dear friend to all of us here at Sarvaa.
From Ayurveda to Sarvaa Organics
As a young man, Derek suffered from health issues, inspiring him to explore the ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda. In tandem with yoga and meditation, he found greater peace and wellbeing through the knowledge he developed about the world’s abundance of nutrient-dense food.
Meanwhile, he began creating homemade supplement alternatives. He sourced ingredients from anywhere nature offers her sustenance, whether foraged locally or brought from distant corners of the globe.
From his kitchen in Durango, Colorado, Derek shared his formulas with friends and family. They encouraged him to offer these nourishing creations to the rest of the world.
And so, Sarvaa Organics was born.
Growing Sarvaa Organics
Through collaboration with local co-op grocer Durango Natural Foods, online sales, and viral word of mouth throughout a network of the country’s natural hot springs, Sarvaa was soon distributing across America.
Joshua Hoffman and the Next Chapter
Derek soon sought a business partner to share his passion and experiences and, ultimately, to continue Sarvaa’s legacy after his retirement.
In 2017, Derek found kinship in Joshua Hoffman, a young man who, like Derek, experienced health challenges. He discovered support through Sarvaa’s superfood products. Before long, Joshua was managing the business.
By 2022, Derek passed on the torch, selling him the company.
Today, Joshua continues to hand mix and package products for the Sarvaa community across America, while leading our small crew of plant-food devotees.
Together we stand upon the foundations Derek laid. Inspired by ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and committed to the ever-expanding knowledge of scientific discovery, our mission remains to nourish, restore balance, and transform.
